The Dispute Resolution Center welcomes volunteers and offers the following opportunities:

Volunteering in our office. Office volunteers are called phone conciliators. Each phone conciliator commits to a weekly 4-hour shift. They talk with callers about conflicts and assess the callers' needs. They help figure out the next steps, facilitate negotiation, explain DRC services and act as a neutral go-between. Conciliators also help with office work. Training is on the job in a supportive, congenial environment. Conciliators learn the language of neutrality and respect and model effective communication skills for parties.

Volunteer as a mediator. The Dispute Resolution Center has over 80 active volunteer mediators who help resolve conflicts in our community. Collectively, they contribute hours of volunteer mediation time each year. The Dispute Resolution Center offers mediation training and a continuing education practicum for becoming a mediator. For more information about becoming a mediator, go to our 'Become a Mediator' page.
