"But I said I was sorry. What more do they want?” Maybe it was the way it was said? Or perhaps it omitted what someone did not/would not say or what the other party needed to hear? Or what about the all too familiar "If only they had apologized from the beginning." Frustrating and more than just a little confusing right? Yet on an almost daily basis we are challenged about whether to demand, offer or accept an apology and the possible subsequent act of forgiveness. And why do some of those work while others fail miserably and maybe even make things worse. Well, this in service is designed to shed some light on that confusion and bring clarity to this most common yet complex and too often elusive daily human interaction upon which our relationships rely.
Areas covered:
· The elements of and differences between successful and unsuccessful apologies and forgiveness.
· To identify the 7 types of apologies
· To identify the 9 elements to exclude from an effective apology
· To apply the standards of responsibility acceptance and rejection to decipher an apology.
· To be aware of cultural considerations regarding the offering and acceptance of either apology or forgiveness
· Learn from the application of historical and notable acts of apology and forgiveness.
