Youth and Family Resources

At a time of unprecedented stress and anxiety, families need conflict resolution and communication skills more than ever. We have compiled some resources, suitable for multiple age groups, around five core concepts that we teach at the DRC. These resources are to support families and kids learning more about conflict, and are by no means comprehensive. You will find both resources created by the DRC and created by other experts in the field.

Always remember, the best time to practice a new skill is when everything is going well!
The resource list is under construction.

Emotions

Recognizing, naming, and managing our emotions in healthy and effective ways are skills that are vital to conflict resolution and relationship building. Learning about emotions, or "emotional literacy" starts in infancy and continues all the way into adulthood.

Conflict

Conflicts happen when two people need different things and are struggling to find a solution that works for both of them. Conflicts can often involve fighting, hurt feelings, fear, anger, and sadness, but it is important to understand that conflict is normal, and can be safe and productive!

Perspectives

We naturally understand things from our own perspective, and struggle to put ourselves in other people's shoes. We make assumptions and tell stories about the world based on our own understanding, and sometimes we are wrong! This can cause problems big and small.
